Easy DIY Moana Themed Birthday!

Irie's 1st Birthday - Moana Theme

We just threw the most memorable First birthday party for Irie. Her favorite movie is Moana so we decided to go with this theme! I love throwing a good party but I couldn't do it without my friends & family! I use Pinterest to get an idea of what I want. I usually start every good party out with a vision and start delegating tasks, otherwise I'd never get it all done. All of the personalized cookies, pretzels, DIY crafts like the Kakamora Coconuts, everything I owe to my talented Aunties! So I wanted to share with you all some ways to throw an epic Moana Themed party without spending a fortune on Vendors!

So my first advice when throwing a big party, is to find your team!

If you have crafty people in your circle, there's no need to spend extra money on decorations and treats. You can't do it all alone, but you don't need to spend a fortune on vendors to make a beautiful event.

Most of the decorations we used were from the Dollar Tree. It couldn't have been a better time because the dollar tree had just rolled out their summer tropical decor. My little cousin actually just had a Luau themed party as well, so whatever was left over from his party, we used too! Anything tropical & summery will work and then you just have to add a few personal touches to give it the "Moana" Theme.

The things we did to personalize it:

1) My Aunt Created the cake topper with baby Moana & the ONE banner using her Cricut!

2) I bought the Coconuts at Dollar Tree & my Aunt hand painted them to make the Kakamora's!

3) Both of my Aunts each made 5 dozen sugar cookies and cut them into tropical fun shapes & they did all the decorating. (Where would a mom like me ever find the time, right??)

4) Oh & the Palm Tree Pretzels also from my Aunts!

5) My Cousin found the Pineapple Piñata Downtown. I also found a Moana one from Party City but we just used it as a decoration.

When our guests arrived, they walked in and grabbed a Lei (which I found at the dollar store), Hula skirts (from other party), and a plumeria hair clip (Amazon).

But if you want to save time & money, you can purchase all of them in bulk from Amazon:

1) 50-Pack of Lei's:

2) 24- Pack of Plumeria Hair Clips:

3) 12- Pack of Hula Skirts: (These ones also come with bracelet leis which we didn't have!)

We decorated the tables with Hula Skirts, my cousin also found on Amazon! Here's a link for you: https://amzn.to/2RZjvhb We set up the kids table like a little picnic on the floor with two benches and a table cloth, and then we put some pillows and kids chairs around. On the kids table we had arts and crafts for them to color or paint which were also tropical themed, sandals and sailboats, palm trees, etc. They also had a pair of sunglasses at their table, I got a huge pack of them from dollar tree! If you want a big pack check dollar tree first, I was going to link something similar but Amazon overcharges for them IMO.

And for the cake! I found the inspo on pinterest of course, and then I went online looking for a special baker to make this cake. I found someone who seemed incredible, but they wanted to charge me almost $200, which I was actually willing to pay at the time. Thank god for my husband and his family because they suggested we go to Vallarta and see if they can make it instead. So we did, the cake was just what I wanted and it cost me a whopping $43.00!

For Food, we usually always cook a lot of food especially my in-laws. This time we decided to have the taco guys come to us. They set up in the back yard and we quoted about 40 people. There was more than enough food and we still had so much other food too! My mother in-law still wound up making her rice and mole, which were a hit in addition. My step sister made a Moana watermelon fruit salad, which was an absolute master piece. And my Aunt Kathie brought a salad which she usually grows fresh from the garden and there is nothing better!!

The Entertainment was definitely the best part! I ordered a few blow up pools/splash pads from Amazon and a bubble maker. The kids never stopped, they were all so happy.

1) Inflatable Rainbow Pool w/ Slide:

2) Splish Splash Water Park:

3) BumbleBee Bubble Maker

Last but not least, the Thank you bags made by yours truly! I bought colorful bags and all the goodies from Dollar Tree! I filled them up with little toys for the kids, bubbles, stickers, mini harmonicas, fake insects or little toy ponies, yo- yo's, etc. Depending on the age of the kids, you can kinda just find a few fun things to add in. I got the idea and the graphics from Pinterest, printed them out and cut them. Glued the the grass skirts to the bags with my hot glue gun and added the graphics on top!

Everything here is so easy to do without spending a fortune. If you have any good tips or fun ideas for a Moana Themed party, feel free to drop it in the comments!
